140 new COVID-19 cases, 15 additional deaths confirmed in Massachusetts

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported 140 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, bringing the state’s total to 104,799.The coronavirus death toll rose to 7,998 after state health officials reported 15 additional confirmed COVID-19-related deaths. In addition, the DPH reported 61 new probable COVID-19 cases on Tuesday. The state’s total number of probable cases is now at 5,539, while the number of probable COVID-19-related deaths sits at 215.On Monday, the DPH made a significant format change to its daily COVID-19 data report. Among the most notable changes in the DPH report was a decision to no longer report a sum of the state’s confirmed and probable coronavirus cases, a practice the state had displayed on the front page of the report since June 1. DPH officials also used the practice for reporting confirmed and probable deaths. State health officials said in June that the addition of probable cases and deaths was part of an effort to continue to offer transparent reporting during the COVID-19 pandemic. In the new format, all data about probable cases is moved down to the twenty-first page of the 27-page report. Click here to see a graphical look at COVID-19 data. Another notable fact removed from the first page of the daily data report was the number of antibody tests. The new format returns to featuring only molecular tests. As of Tuesday, 1.14 million molecular tests have been administered to 901,221 individuals, while 76,090 individuals have undergone antibody tests. As of Tuesday, 621 patients with the virus were hospitalized in Massachusetts. There were 104 COVID-19 patients reported to be in an intensive care unit.PHNjcmlwdCBpZD0iaW5mb2dyYW1fMF85MTUyMTg3My03NmRhLTQ0ZmUtOTA0Ny1mMTllZWFlZGFjNmQiIHRpdGxlPSJDb3JvbmF2aXJ1cyBpbiBNYXNzYWNodXNldHRzIiBzcmM9Imh0dHBzOi8vZS5pbmZvZ3JhbS5jb20vanMvZGlzdC9lbWJlZC5qcz9yeXoiIHR5cGU9InRleHQvamF2YXNjcmlwdCI+PC9zY3JpcHQ+New data is published daily around 4 p.m.
