22 Chapel Street’s Superstructure Climbs Above Downtown Brooklyn – New York

22 Chapel Street’s Superstructure Climbs Above Downtown Brooklyn – New York

Construction is swiftly rising at 22 Chapel Street, a 20-story rental building in Downtown Brooklyn. Designed by CetraRuddy and developed by Delshah Capital and OTL Enterprises, the structure will stand 211 feet tall and span 133,181 square feet with 180 units.

Recent photographs show the reinforced concrete superstructure several stories above ground level at the site, which is located to the east of St. James Cathedral Basilica by the Manhattan Bridge. The stepped curved profile that faces Flatbush Avenue is beginning to be revealed as the wooden formwork and steel rebar rise in step with the formation of new floors.

The rendering shows a white façade that appears to be composed of stone or masonry. The window grid features a mix of orthodox rectangular openings and narrow vertical slits scattered at irregular intervals. A setback before the final two floors creates a simple crown for the structure. It also looks like several sections of the eastern elevation cantilever out slightly in a fan pattern, giving the design a more sculpted appearance. A large rectangular glass wall will grace the wide northern profile.

Rental units span the third through 20th floors. The ground floor will contain 2,000 square feet retail space, a community facility, and bicycle storage for residents. Amenities include 87 private parking spaces for occupants, a residential lounge, a party room, a fitness center, a children’s playroom, a swimming pool on the 15th floor, and an outdoor rooftop deck.

A number of subways are nearby including the A, B, C, F, Q, R, 2, 3, 4, and 5 trains at the High Street, York Street, DeKalb Avenue, Clark Street, Borough Hall, and Jay Street-MetroTech stations.

YIMBY last reported that 22 Chapel Street is slated to be completed in the winter of 2022, as noted on the construction fence.
